A new high school in LA has been named in honor of the environmentally-conscious former Vice President Al Gore. But now, activists are saying the school was built on a site contaminated with more than a dozen leftover storage tanks belonging to gas stations and other factories. (More …)

Steve Centanni just reported that General Petraeus said the following about the potential danger caused to our troops should Florida Pastor Terry Jones go through with his plan to burn copies of the Koran on September 11th:
“Were the actual burning to take place, the safety of our soldiers and civilians would be put in jeopardy and accomplishment of the mission would be made more difficult. Images of the burning of the Koran would undoubtedly be used by extremists in Afghanistan and around the world, to inflame public opinion and incite violence.”
Florida Pastor Terry Jones plans to burn copies of the Koran on September 11th in a act of protest against radical Islam. General Petraeus has expressed concern that such an act would endanger our troops overseas. Petraeus isn’t the only person weighing in, members of the New Black Panther Party are holding counter-protests saying this act will only serve to create more division between Christians and Muslims.

Stuart Varney just joined America’s Newsroom to discuss the 9.6 percent unemployment rate, which has inched up for the month of August. Varney said the increase was not as bad as predicted, but there was still a net loss of 54,000 jobs.
Approximately 67,000 jobs were created in the private sector in August, as well, but according to Varney there is an economic and political negative that goes along with that statistic: “A lot of people had stopped looking for jobs,” Varney said. But now some, of those are coming back in to the workforce, which could only increase unemployment numbers in the months to come.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held a meeting to further peace talks with Palestine and Israel. Her opening quote:
